Thanks Richard,

We were getting some very conflicting updates regarding availability from an agent in Ireland, UK and France. Anyway we took the plunge and reserved a 2 bed mezzanine. In the process now of filling out forms for a french mortgage, Thanks for the update and the pictures - who knows we could be neighbours yet!!

Nice pictures Richard and comforting to see somebody who has been down to the site recently. mbg

Hi Robina

We've taken out a french mortgage as it provides tax relief against the rental income and also an element of hedging against currency fluctuations.

We visited the site again earlier this week. Building is progressing well - if interested see pictures on my facebook pages at  http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=14174&l=03a97&id=573818867

We also managed to look inside the Chateau as work is starting there now. All seemed to be going well. Windows are starting to be fitted in one of the blocks and plaster board is going up.

Not sure where you get the 10 unsold units from. We met Catherine from the developer on site and she was saying that there were currently four units available.

Cheers

Richard

Hi,

Can anyone advise whether it is better to take out a mortgage in Uk/Ireland or a french mortgage?

Also is it a bit worrying that none of the ten remaining properties have been sold in the last 3/4 months?...Yours thoughts please...

robina

Mark,

Thanks for the link it's nice to keep up with what's happening.

Certainly moving on quickly when we last visited in Sept they were just breaking the ground.

It will be interesting to see it develop over this year.

Looks like quite a bit of progress has been made.

Thanks Richard pictures certainly show how things are moving along.  I made the mistake of changing which unit I was going for midway through the process - finally though revised paperwork is coming through and should be signing everything next week.

Richard, thanks for photos it has certainly moved on in a few weeks. We went start of Sept and they had just started digging the first area for foundations and your photos certainly show things are starting to move quickly. Will be interesting to see how quickly things develop.

Just had mail from notaires to pay first 35% & things seem to be going ok.

Returned last night from our visit. I imagine from previous comments that things have now progressed quite a bit. The original owner moved out of the chateau 2 or 3 weeks ago. The footings are well underway for both blocks B & C so it is possible to get a sense of the layout and distances etc. There were plenty of guys working on site, along with two large cranes so things should progress more quickly.

We really liked the area and there is also another development next to the lake in Homps, which I think is a good thing for the town in general.

We have taken several pictures of the site and a couple of the waterfront in Homps. I will attempt to post some, but let me know if necessary and I will email a copy direct.

Can't wait for 2009 hols now.

Cheers

Richard

We have reserved a 2 bed mezz and have an appointment to view the site early Oct. I will post an update shortly after.riskblue

Hi visited last week (will post photos). They have marked out ready to start foundations work was going on when i visited albeit I know we are now talking late next year when I know it was going to be orginally summer. Still think it will be a good investment when complete though.

Any idea what is happening here as not much progresss on the documentation front.  Also, have had some friends pass by recently and does not appear to be much progress on the ground front either.mbg

Mark,

I'm not an expert on this but I'm planning to use a UK notary public. Looks like there are plenty in my area and understand when it gets to that stage the agents I'm using (Latitudes) will provide all the detail on what I need to do. Saves on the hassle of travelling to Nice.

Steve

Steve/Josher - have just received details of signing contract.  Looks like you can travel to Nice, travel to Dublin or do through a UK Notary Public.  Not sure what is involved in the last option - any ideas ?

Hi Josher,

Think the French way is much slower but I reserved in Feb and got my mortgage offer a couple of months later and am due to sign the deeds in August time (or so the Notaire tells me).

With regard to the change of the management company I received a letter confirming this change. No impact to rental guarantee or any elements of lease but offers things like shorter period stays if needed. It looks ok to me.

I'm due t o go over the start of Sept as hopefully they should be moving on with it. Don't have any concerns that I've heard of but guess we'll see as things develop.

Mark,

Thanks for the reply & (private message update). Like you the reduced flexibility of Olea was a slight concern but I'll wait and see...wouldn't the property at Jausiers be an option for sking?  I keep trying to talk my wife into the virues of sking but at present she's can't be talked out of 'warm' holidays!

I've had my mortgage offer so just waiting to do the notaire bit now which I'm being told should be next month.

Regards...Steve

Steve - Just had my mortgage papers through today and noticed the same re. OLEA.  Not sure what that means with regards to the Eurogroup Papers we have already signed.  Also, a bit miffed as OLEA have limited locations (bang goes the skiing trip !!)  Regarding availability looks about 90% sold which I guess is not too bad.  Have fired off a quick email to Jane Gilloway at Riverrun so will drop you a line if I hear anything.

Hi Mark,

Good to hear from someone else who is buying. Ive just been checking the website and the completion is now showing as Q4 next year so obviously things have moved back. I also noticed the holiday company is now OLEA instead of Eurogroup have you heard anything about why it changed? Looking at availability there's now more available than when I reserved in February which is a little concerning but hopefully things will start moving forward. Due to go over early Sept to see what if any progress has been made.
